Guido Appenzeller is a Consulting Assistant Professor at Stanford University in the Computer Systems Lab while also being a part-time Entrepreneur in Residence with Morgenthaler Ventures. His interests include software systems and innovative networking technologies, and he is heavily involved in the Clean Slate Program and the emerging OpenFlow standard.

Prior to joining Stanford, Guido co-founded Voltage Security, a leader in enterprise encryption solutions. He served as a founding board member, CTO and Engineering Manager, and helped grow the company to over 400 enterprise customers and over 1 million licensed users. Guido also worked as an Associate at Kappa IT Ventures, a European Technology Investor, and for McKinsey & Company in their German office.

Guido has published over 20 peer reviewed conference and journal articles, and holds over 15 issued or pending patents. He was named to the MIT TR100 list of top technology innovators in 2004, and named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum in 2006.

Guido holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, and his undergraduate degree in Physics magna cum laude from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
